A couple months after three 2017 Ford GT prototypes were pulled over for speeding in Colorado, it’s been reported that the speeding and reckless driving charges have been dropped.
Vail Daily wrote that at the time, a Colorado State Patrol trooper clocked two of the prototypes driving at 101 mph (162 km/h) in a 50 mph (80 km/h) zone while the third was obeying the posted speed limit.
While trying to prosecute the offending drivers however, it was too difficult to identify which of the three were speeding as they didn’t have license plates and all looked almost identical.
According to assistant District Attorney Heidi McCollum, “There would have been no way to identify which two of the three were doing the speeding. There was no way we could prove beyond a reasonable doubt which two of the three were speeding.”
While the charges for the triple figure speeds were dropped, McCollum did say “There are places to go 100 mph (160km/h). The interstate highway leaving Glenwood Canyon is not one of those places.”
It still remains somewhat of a mystery when production examples will hit the streets. Recently, it was reported that in the welcome guide provided to 2017 Ford GT owners, Ford says the first customer deliveries will commence next month. That comes despite the fact that full technical specifications about the model’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine have yet to be made public.
