If you like your racing sims but don’t want to be glued to your console and television, we have good news: as promised, Codemasters has now released its official Formula One game for Apple devices.
Now available on Apple’s App Store is a mobile version of F1 2016, ready to install on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV – or all three, actually, since this is a “Universal Purchase” that allows you to port it over from one device to another.
The game features all 22 drivers from all 11 teams on the grid, and all 21 circuits on the calendar. You can play around with a short race or enter an entire season, complete with practice sessions and qualifying.
Naturally the graphics aren’t quite as advanced as the console versions available for Xbox One or PlayStation 4. But with 1.4 million polygons on-screen, it looks pretty damn impressive for a mobile game.
You can run it on a device as old as an iPhone 5 S, but if you run it on a new iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, you get the added benefit of Apple’s new Taptic engine and stereo audio. Android users needn’t feel left out for long, though, as a version for that platform is set to launch “in the coming weeks” as well.
