While these types of incidents often occur during Formula One races, amateurs would be wise not to attempt such aggressive overtaking maneuvers.
To make things more interesting, the racing line on this particularly narrow section of the track is a lot closer to how the driver of the Honda CR-X was positioning his car, which makes blaming him for this crash a bit tougher, even though it does almost seem like he’s trying to get out of the way for a split second.
Still, what we do know for a fact is that the driver of that E46 BMW M3 was the one that ultimately decided to dive on the inside when there was very little room to speak of.
Ultimately, he took a chance and it was a very risky one – not knowing if the driver ahead was indeed keen on letting him by. Thankfully, the impact was a minimal one, causing the CR-X to spin and gently tap its rear end against the barrier.
Also, the M3 does stay in the Honda’s blind spot for a good 2-seconds after the initial turn, so maybe that had something to do with the crash as well.
