The year is nearing its end, so it’s time for all sorts of “car of the year” awards to start coming out. Not all of them are aimed at the same audience, though.

For over a quarter of a century, Autocar magazine is gathering what its editors consider to be the best driver’s cars available in the UK market and came out with a winner.

This time around, they came up with no less than 11 sports cars and, after driving them in isolation and back to back, gathered them all at the Anglesey circuit to figure out which was the best.

It speaks volumes for the level of the competition that specials, such as the BMW M4 GTS, were ranked pretty low, beaten by less powerful (and, in one case, significantly cheaper…) machinery.. Then again, not all editors were of the same mind, but that’s democracy for you.

Anyhow, as you can see this is an eclectic bunch and, while we won’t spoil the video by divulging the winner, we can say that 2015’s champ, the venerable Ferrari 488 GTB, didn’t manage to hold on to its title.

It surely takes a pretty exceptional car to beat the 488 GTB for driving thrills, doesn’t it? In this case, it sure does, so click to find out who was that good to put the Ferrari out of the top spot.
