Ford has committed to over $530 million of additional investments into its Canadian factories.
Confirmation of the investments come on the back of the American marque striking a new four-year contract with its workers represented by the Canadian union Unifor, Automotive News reports.
Among the investments will be approximately $613 million heading to Ford’s Windsor engine plants in Canada. The company said that its Windsor operation will see the addition of a new large displacement engine program. Additionally, the union says the 4.8-liter V8 engine of the F-150 will be built in Windsor.
Alongside the investments into its engine plants, around $100 million will be funnelled towards updates to the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKT at Ford’s assembly plant in Ontario.
Workers will also benefit from the deal. They will receive a $6,000 bonus, a 2 per cent wage increase for veteran workers, three $2,000 lump payments and pay rises every year for a decade for new employees.
