Want to know which are the best cars and trucks for tuning? Wonder no more, because the ballots have been cast and the tallies are in from this year’s SEMA show.
According to the Specialty Equipment Market Association, the hottest coupe is the Ford Mustang, the hottest hatch the Ford Focus, the hottest truck the Ford F-Series, the hottest SUV the Jeep Wrangler, and the hottest sedan the Dodge Charger.
The results are tallied from votes cast by the 2,4000+ exhibiting manufacturers at the show and the awards given at a breakfast ceremony the second morning of the show. They’re designed to “guide consumers toward the hottest-trending and most accessory friendly vehicles on the market.”
Notwithstanding a reconfiguring of the categories, the results closely mirror those of last year’s awards. The 2015 show saw the Mustang crowned the hottest car, the F-Series the hottest truck, the Wrangler the hottest 4×4/SUV, and the Focus the hottest sport compact. The Mustang has won for the past five years running, and the F-Series for six out of the past seven.
Last year was the first time that a single automaker took three of the awards, and this year marks the first that the feat was repeated. That’s all good news for Ford, but also for Fiat Chrysler and its Mopar division. The Wrangler won the SUV prize for the seventh consecutive year, covering the entire history of the awards. Picking up the new sedan prize only sweetened the deal for the folks from Auburn Hills.
The awarding of any prize, of course, will inevitably disappoint those who didn’t win. And the pain must have been felt particularly sharp at General Motors, which was locked out of the awards for the second year in a row.
