An Indian businessman has shelled out 33 million dirhams ($9 million USD) for a license plate in Dubai.
Balwinder Sahani paid the hefty sum for the ‘D5’ plate at a government auction last month, reports the Independent, adding to the ‘O9’ license plate he bought last year for 25 million dirhams ($6.8 million).
As with other countries around the world, short license plates are particularly popular in the United Arab Emirates and used as a status symbol among the nation’s wealthy.
The most expensive license plate sold in the country was ‘1’, which shifted hands for 52 million dirhams ($14.2 million) back in 2008.
Sahani says he will put the license plate on his Rolls-Royce Phantom.
