Throughout its 70 year history, Ferrari has produced some of the world’s finest cars and while it’s impossible to pinpoint one as the very best, the F40 is surely among the greatest.
During its five year production run, just 1,311 F40s rolled off the production line and despite some examples being almost 30 years old, the mid-engined Italian supercar remains one of the best driver’s cars in history. Recently, Jay Leno had the opportunity to discover what makes the F40 so impressive.
The F40 in question is owned by noted Ferrari collector David Lee who just so happens to own all five of the brand’s ‘hypercars’ and despite the F40’s rarity, value and desirability, he gives Leno the keys to drive it on the highway and up in the canyons.
Power for the F40 of course comes from a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine delivering 471 hp and mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
