The Chinese car market remains the most important battleground for automakers, and Mercedes-Benz knows this all too well.
In fact, the Germans started producing vehicles locally back in 2005 and the E-Class was the first model to roll off the assembly line at the Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd (BBAC), a joint venture between Daimler and BAIC.
Now, 11 years later, the company is celebrating the one-millionth car produced in the People’s Republic, and more or less random, the milestone vehicle is an E-Class, from the latest generation, which shares the same birthplace with the C-Class, GLA, and GLC.
“This occasion is a milestone for our successful partnership with BAIC and another solid proof of our ‘Made in China, for China‘ commitment. BBAC is key to the long-term and sustainable development of the Mercedes-Benz brand in China, and we will continue developing it into one of the most pioneering manufacturing sites in Daimler’s global production network“, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for Daimler Greater China, Hubertus Troska, said.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class, on the other hand, remains the brand’s highest volume model of all time, and in the first ten months of this year alone, more of them were delivered in China than in any other market. Developed specifically for the Asian country, the new E-Class LWB, which hit the local assembly line this summer, is expected to continue the growth.
