The 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF has officially gone on sale in the US market after the company managed to bring the hardtop derivative of the popular roadster two months earlier than the originally announced date.
Mazda says fans should thank ‘shifts in the production schedule’ for this blessing, with the first customer already taking delivery of his car from the hands of Mazda North America CEO Masahiro Moro at the LA Auto Show.
His name is Dave Putter and his car is one of the 1,000 MX-5 RF Launch Edition models. Putter is what someone would call a brand loyalist as this will be his 16th Mazda and his eighth MX-5 overall.
“Mazda is a unique and special car company that aims to do more than simply sell cars,” said Moro. “We want to build lifelong relationships with our customers and fans, providing them a fulfilling ownership experience they couldn’t get anywhere else.”
The Mazda MX-5 RF features a power-operated retractable hard top than can be opened or closed in just 13 seconds. Customers in the US get the 2.0-litre petrol engine option paired to either the standard six-speed manual or the optional six-speed automatic gearbox.
Pricing for the new 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF starts from $31,555 MSRP, with the model offered in two trim levels: Club and Grand Touring.
