Even though the Nurburgring is one of the most gruelling and dangerous racetracks in the world, vehicles you’d never expect to see on a circuit actually make quite frequent appearances at the facility. Case in point, this Mercedes-Maybach S600.
The German behemoth recently tackled ‘Green Hell’ in what’s thought to be part of the development and testing regime for the facelifted S-Class, arriving next year. As you’d expect, it looks utterly out of place at the track, dawdling around the tricky corners and emitting almost nothing but tire noise.
There’s no doubt that the Maybach is well out of its comfort zone at the track but testing at the Nurburgring is important in ensuring the reliability of future models and making sure they can handle all the abuse the owner throws at them. Or in the case of the Maybach, the owner’s chauffeur.
Powering the Mercedes-Maybach S600 is a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 delivering 530 hp between 4,900 and 5,300 rpm and 612 lb-ft of torque (830 Nm) at 4,000 rpm.
It has been confirmed that the facelifted S-Class range will debut with four brand new engines but at this stage, it isn’t known which, if any, of these engines will also find their way into the Maybach range.
