Some rivalries will always meant to be classic in the automotive world, no matter how much the times have changed. Both the Corvette and the Porsche 911 are destined to meet each other in every given opportunity, with the American car being usually the one to retreat first.
The C7 generation has managed to really narrow down the huge gap that once separated the two models but it never really come on top of the duel, despite its obvious value-for-money leverage.
This time though, GM seems to have found the magic recipe by throwing the new Grand Sport into the arena, combining the wide body chassis of the beastly ZO6 with the naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 of the Stingray. The new 460hp and 465 lb-ft Corvette Grand Sport uses all the latest tricks GM learned the last years with a powertrain that doesn’t overcome the chassis, making it easily the sweetest, most fun-to-drive Corvette to date.
Porsche on the other hand made one of the most radical departures in the 911 Carrera history, replacing the naturally aspirated flat sixes with modern twin-turbo units that not only make the German sportscar faster than ever, but more efficient as well. Combine this with the addition of chassis technologies like the rear-wheel steering and the best dual-clutch gearbox in the market and what you’re left with is a 420hp and 368 lb-ft 911 Carrera S that manages to lap faster around Willow Springs than a 911 GT3 while retaining its everyday friendliness.
Which one is the best out of the two? MotorTrend thinks they’ve got the answer in their latest Head2Head episode linked below.
