Daimler is expanding the range of its posh Mercedes-Maybach sub-brand with the limited-production S650 Cabriolet that will have its world premiere at the LA Auto Show on Wednesday.
A teaser video released by Mercedes on social media suggests that, just like the Mercedes-Maybach sedans are variants of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans, the S650 Cabriolet will be an even more luxuriously flavored edition of the S-Class Convertible.
However, whereas the Maybach limos ride on elongated wheelbases, it appears that the S650 Cabriolet will retain the S-Class Convertible’s footprint unchanged.
Aside from the different trimmings inside and out, upgraded interior equipment, and bespoke wheels that can be seen in the pictures, the Maybach model’s moniker points to an enhanced V12 powertrain, possibly with a 6.0-liter or 6.5-liter displacement. For the record, the most powerful S-Class Convertible today is the $247,900 S65 AMG featuring a 621hp (630PS) 6.0-liter turbocharged V12 paired to a 7G-Tronic automatic transmission.
Another thing we get from the video is the “1 of 300” plaque on the lower center console that refers to the number of cars Mercedes plans to build.
We’ll have a full rundown on the new Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet from next week’s LA Auto Show.
