While the all-new Commodore will feature plenty of new and exciting technologies, the fact that it’s essentially Australia’s version of the Opel Insignia and Buick Regal might not sit well with some Holden fans.
Among the changes we know are happening is the switch from rear-wheel drive to front-wheel and for higher-performance models, all-wheel drive. At launch, the flagship 2018 Commodore will feature a 3.6-liter delivering 308 HP (230 kW) paired to Holden’s first nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
In terms of driving dynamics, the use of GM’s E2 global architecture will help the 2018 model lose somewhere between 200 and 300 kg (440-660 lbs) in weight, which should also help improve fuel economy.
The new Commodore will also come with adaptive suspension, matrix headlights and a modern infotainment system with both Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto. In other words, it should have quite a few strong selling points compared to the outgoing model.
The looks, however, are still up for debate, and if it ends up mirroring these renderings from RM Design, we wonder what current Commodore fans have to say about it.
