In drag racing circles, cars such as the Nissan GT-R usually don’t shy away from a challenge, especially when they’re packing a little something extra underneath the hood.
What we have here then is a 590 HP slightly tuned GT-R (modified ECU, intake and exhaust), going up against a custom Renntech Mercedes-AMG GT S boasting no less than 612 HP.
If both of them were stock, the Mercedes-AMG would have clearly been in trouble, as it’s not nearly as quick to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) as the lightning bolt that is the GT R. That being said, they share similar top speeds at just over 310 km/h (192 mph), with the Nissan being faster by a mere 3 km/h (1.8 mph).
On the flip side, the AMG GT S is lighter by around 95 kg (209 lbs) and has a little more torque, so winning this straight line rolling start drag race may not be as straight-forward as you may think for the Nissan.
What we will say is that with this drag race, we’re not as surprised by the winner itself, as we are by the fact that one of these cars put on a shockingly dominant performance. Also, if you think this was an isolated incident, check out how a previous meeting between these two models turned out.
