The 1966 Le Mans-winning Ford GT40 fully restored by Rare Driver and owned by RK Motors Charlotte is set to be showcased at the impending Los Angeles Auto Show.

Over the past 20 months, almost 4,000 hours have been spent on returning the famed race car to its former glory. The restoration has been so comprehensive that the finished car even has the very same unequal length exhaust pipes and dripping paint which the car original had in the mid-1960s.

RK Motors Charlotte first unveiled the restored model at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August before displaying it at the Ford booth at SEMA 2016.

According to president of RK Motors Charlotte, Joseph Carroll, “It’s a thrill for us to be part of Ford’s display at the L.A. Auto Show, one of the automotive world’s preeminent events. We’re proud to bring this important piece of racing history to Auto Show visitors, as well as attending media from throughout the world.”

During the vehicle’s restoration, it has been subject to a seven-part video series on the RK Motors website, detailing the build and in the final episode, showing it returning to the famed Circuit de la Sarthe and its introduction back into the United States.
