As we know, Renault’s Alpine brand is hard at work developing an all-new sports car, but what if Renault itself wanted to return to the sports car arena?

Perhaps the last true sports car produced by the French brand was the short-lived Sport Spider, built between 1996 and 1999. With a small four-cylinder engine and a sub 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) curb weight, it followed the formula made famous by Lotus, yet failed to be a commercial hit.

Fast forward to 2016 and Renault, particularly through its Renault Sport division, is producing some of the finest hot hatches on the market and has all the expertise to create a successor to the Sport Spider. This Spider revival, created by Behance designer Monholo Oumar, could be that car.

As with the original Sport Spider, the modern-day interpretation makes do without a windscreen and appears particularly focused on motorsport use. Some design elements appear to be inspired by the Alpine Vision Gran Turismo Concept combined with the RenaultSport R.S. 01, while some of the most eye-catching features are the LED headlights and taillights, the large rear wing and massive diffuser.
