Drag racing can be very expensive, but you can do it on a budget and still get some thrills out of it. Instead of spending your kids’ college funds on a sub 10-second car, you can go for something much smaller; just like this guy.
A Smart ForTwo is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to drag racing, but that’s part of what makes it unique.
Sure, it will require some additional modifications; this particular car was fitted with a 150 hp, Volkswagen-sourced 1.9 TDI, widened fenders and bigger rear wheels. And that’s it.
The result? A 1,610 lb (730 kg), rear-engine, diesel dragster that can cross a quarter-mile in an impressive 13 seconds. Bear in mind that we’re talking about a 150 hp car capable of covering the 400-metre dash faster than a BMW M3 CSL E46, a Mercedes CLA45 AMG, a 2016 Ford Focus RS, or a BMW M4 Cabriolet, to name a few.
And the best thing about it is its wheelie-popping abilities, caused by the big TDI in the back, that’s taking the car’s fun-o-meter to a whole new level.
