Toyota has just launched the new Roomy and Tank available exclusively in the Japanese market.
Both the new models are offered solely with a small 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, which delivers 140 Nm of torque, a figure which Toyota says is more reflective of a 1.5-liter. This engine comes standard alongside a CVT transmission and can be paired to either front- or all-wheel drive.
Given that both models are about moving people in comfort, it’s no surprise that the brand is at pains to point out some of the key interior features. These include rear seats which can be moved forward by up to 240 mm, allowing for four suitcases to be loaded into the cargo space while still carrying five occupants.
Additionally, the rear seats can be reclined by up to 70 degrees to offer occupants sleeping space. There’s also walkthrough front seats which makes ingress and egress between the front and rear seats very simple.
Elsewhere, the new Roomy and Tank include a 5-liter removable center trash bin, a 4.2-inch TFT color display and a wide array of storage spaces.
Also found within both models is a collision avoidance assist system which has five key functions. It includes collision avoidance brake assist, a line deviation warning function, an accidental-start control component for forward and backward starts, collision warning for other vehicles and pedestrians and finally, a system which notifies the driver that the vehicle ahead has started moving forward.
Prices for the models range between 1.46 million yen ($14,200) and 2.008 million yen ($19,600).
