Volkswagen will bring a Golf-based crossover concept to the Geneva Motor Show 2017 in March, influenced by the T-Roc Concept of 2014.

Autocar reports that the new Golf crossover will sit below the Tiguan in the company’s line-up and when it is revealed in production guise later in 2017, will bring the T-Roc name to the market, despite alternatives being registered.

While the original T-Roc Concept was a three-door, the model in question will retain the five-door layout of conventional Golf models but will be distinct thanks to its bespoke exterior styling.

Beneath the skin, the model will be based around the company’s MQB platform and retain the same 2,640 mm wheelbase of the Golf. All up, it is expected to have the same dimensions as the original T-Roc Concept, meaning it’ll be about 4,178 mm long, 1,831 mm wide and 1,501 mm high.

As with the rest of the Golf range, a selection of engines will be offered. These will include an entry-level 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 113 hp, a 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI offered in 128 hp and 148 hp guises as well as the 2.0-liter, turbo’d four-cylinder of the facelifted GTI delivering 241 hp.

Despite VW’s diesel emissions scandal, at least two diesel four-cylinder engines will be offered for the T-Roc. Additionally, both plug-in hybrid and all-electric variants are expected.

Front-wheel drive will most likely come standard on entry-level models but four-wheel drive will be offered in high-end specifications. Six-speed manual and seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmissions will complete the range.
