From the occasional track day to serious motorsport racing in various events, the first generation Volkswagen Golf GTI remains highly appreciated for its performance and versatility.

As it was the case with the renowned BMW M3 E30, prices for these cars have started to go up and it’s not uncommon to see a good example change hands for around $10,000. Sure, spend enough time on the used car market and you might land yourself a perfect deal, but then you’ll probably need to carry out the entire restoration process on your own.

Among the many examples listed for sale, this particular car stands out. At first, its price doesn’t seem normal – isn’t €19,000 too much for a first-gen GTI? Ah, but there’s a reason for that: it puts out an amazing 600 PS (592 HP), allegedly squeezed from a highly modified 1.8-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to a manual gearbox. This means that this Golf is almost 500 PS (493 HP) more powerful than when it left the production line in 1983.

From the special paint to those large wheels and high-performance braking system, the hot hatch has been transformed into a different monster. Its current owner, who also happens to be behind these mods, isn’t that willing to talk about it on the internet, but says he’s happy to give in all the details to a serious buyer. Taking it for a test drive from the driver’s seat is also out of the question, so you might want to arm yourself with patience if you want to spend serious money on this highly tuned classic hot hatch with more power than a Lamborghini Gallardo.
