Almost everyone has broken the speed limit at least once in his life, but one 21-year old Aussie really pushed it too far…
He was clocked doing 231 km/h (144 mph), or more than double the 110 km/h (68 mph) speed limit on the Hume Highway at Jugiong, in a Holden ute, which is Aussie-talk for a car-based pickup truck!
The police officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command pulled him over and had him tested for alcohol, which turned out negative.
Nevertheless, they suspended his driving license, confiscated the pickup and issued him a Field Court Attendance for “driving at speed dangerous to the public and exceed speed over 45 km/h (28 mph)“, as the NSWPolice reports. The offender is due to appear at the Gundagai Local Court on January 17, 2017.
Commenting on the story, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy, from the state’s Traffic & Highway Patrol Command, advised road users not to break the traffic law, warning them that they will be held accountable for their actions.
