According to reports, next month’s Detroit Auto Show will see the debuts of the 2018 F-150 and 2018 Mustang and with them, a brand new 4.8-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine from the automaker.
Ford Authority claims to have received word from an unnamed source that Ford’s 4.8-liter V8 will act as the replacement to the current 5.0-liter Coyote V8 currently used by the Mustang GT and certain Ford F-150 variants.
It is thought that beyond its reduction in displacement, the key difference between the 4.8-liter and the 5.0-liter will be the new engine’s adoption of dual injection. By implementing both direct and port fuel injection, the 4.8-liter will be more efficient and when working in conjunction with variable valve timing, may have a higher compression ratio.
If true, that means the new engine won’t only be more fuel efficient than the Coyote but that it will also have more power.
With the Detroit show less than a few weeks away, we don’t have long to wait to hear more so stay tuned.
