It seems this is a very pertinent question to ask if you happen to be out shopping for a supercar that you’ll mostly use for driving around the city, plus the occasional hard acceleration to satisfy your g-force needs.
Of course we all know why McLaren built the 675LT and there’s no disputing that it’s a quicker car when compared to the 650S, especially around a track – though the numbers support its case even if we’re only referring to a drag race.
On paper, where the 650S brings 650 PS and 678 Nm (500 lb-ft) of torque to the table, the track-focused 675LT gives you an extra 25 PS and 22 Nm (16 lb-ft) of torque, upgrading your 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time by 0.1 seconds (from 3 sec flat to 2.9).
By the way, this particular rolling start drag race features the Spider version of the 650S, which means a lower top speed (compared to the Coupe) of 329 km/h (204 mph) – though you can still say it’s identical to what the 675LT can do when maxed out.
So judging by the rate at which the 675LT pulls away from the 650S Spider in a straight line, is it safe to say there’s very little between them?
