Following the delayed launch of the Maserati Alfieri, it was been confirmed that the Italian marque will go without a sports car or GT in its range for at least two years.
According to Car Magazine, production of the current GranTurismo and GranCabrio will finish at the end of 2017. Although Maserati has confirmed these models will get successors, they are unlikely to arrive until 2019 at the earliest with a 2020 launch more probable.
If the brand’s initial plans had come to fruition, the Alfieri sports car would have arrived this year and acted as the brand’s primary sports car following the end of production of the current GranTurismo and GranCabrio. However, the Alfieri isn’t expected to launch until early next decade and official word from the firm is that it’s “in a holding pattern…orbiting the Earth, awaiting landing.”
Despite the absence of any sports cars or GTs in its fleet, Maserati sales could hit record highs in the coming few years on the back of demand for the Levante SUV.
Nevertheless, its range will lack some excitement.
