The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a probe into the 2014-2016 Dodge Durango and 2013-2016 Ram 1500 over an alleged issue with the rotary shifter that could result in the vehicles rolling away.
As AutoNews writes, the NHTSA acted after receiving complaints about 25 crashes and 9 injuries and the number of affected vehicles could be as high as 1 million!
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is aware of this issue and says that it’s cooperating with the agency to get the matter resolved. In the meantime, owners are being advised to set the parking brake before exiting.
The affected vehicles have an electronic rotary control for gear selection that is different to the shifter that was the issue of a previous recall earlier this year.
Note: In the original article, it was mistakenly reported that the problem was with the parking brake. We stand corrected.
