Poor visibility and icy conditions made it difficult for drivers to slow down on a street in Indianapolis, and the Comcast Xfinity repair truck that was parked on the right lane made for an accident (or more) waiting to happen.
It all started when the Comcast truck arrived to make repairs to a box and couldn’t find a proper, and safe, place to park. On top of that, the fact that the repairman placed a few cones behind the truck didn’t make much of a difference due to the poor visibility and the slippery conditions.
As drivers tried to slow down and swerve, they started losing control of their cars, with some ending up off-road, and others getting rear-ended. There were even a couple of really scary incidents, but thankfully nobody was injured.
YouTuber Amish Hacker, the man who recorded the whole thing, had this to say in the description of the video:
“Multiple people were placed in danger. Even after the accident happened in front of them, they (Comcast) continued to work not changing any of their “safety” procedures. They showed ZERO concern for the safety of people before or after the accidents.”
Apparently, there were more available cones inside of the Comcast trucks, and yet they weren’t deployed.
As for Comcast, the following statement, as reported by Fox 59, was released yesterday by Ed Marchetti, the company’s SVP of Technical Operations.
“When I watched this video I was very concerned by what I saw. Our employees should always protect people and treat them with respect no matter what the situation. Safety matters most – especially in dangerous weather conditions like this. We are actively investigating what happened when our technicians were on site to restore services during an outage and we will reach out to those who were impacted by this incident. Within the next 24-48 hours, my team leaders will meet with out technicians across our company to use this as an example of how important it is to make everyone’s safety a priority in everything we do. And just as important, there’s no place for disrespect – treating people the right way is the only way to work.”
