Tesla chief executive Elon Musk has revealed that the company will soon begin cracking down on those abusing its Superchargers.
Next year, Tesla will end unlimited free use of its Supercharger network and take direct action to stop those who leave their vehicles at Supercharger stations for longer than necessary.
Responding on Twitter to a complaint about stations often being clogged by Teslas left even after their fully charged, Musk said “…This is becoming an issue. Supercharger spots are meant for charging, not parking. Will take action.”
Earlier in the year, the automaker rolled-out a text message-based alert system where owners are notified when their vehicle is charged and then every subsequent five minutes until it is unplugged in a bid to stop owners leaving their cars at Superchargers unnecessarily. Evidently however, it hasn’t totally worked.
Demand on Superchargers may decrease next year when new customers have to pay to use the facilities after the first 1,000 miles of driving.
@loic You’re right, this is becoming an issue. Supercharger spots are meant for charging, not parking. Will take action.
