It’s no secret that Toyota is expecting a lot from their new C-HR crossover, a model that lands in the hotspot of the European market, aiming to drive sales up for the Japanese maker.
The distinctive styling of the new C-HR is certainly one of the highlights but in order to successfully rival the establishment, Toyota had to step up their game in terms of interior quality and handling.
That last part is being taken care of by the adoption of Toyota’s latest TNGA platform which debuted in the current Prius and offers a much more rigid base for the suspension to work on, improving the handling and comfort of the new C-HR.
Toyota reckons that most European buyers will opt for the Hybrid version which uses the same powertrain with the Prius, meaning a combination of a 1.8-litre petrol with an electric motor and a CVT transmission. Total output is 120hp with the official fuel economy to be a combined 74.3mpg UK (3.8lt/100km) and CO2 emissions rated at 86g/km.
So it looks good, it’s fairly economical to use and it’s a crossover on top, so what could go wrong? Auto Express delivers their first driving impressions on the video below.
