Volkswagen’s upcoming replacement for the CC, dubbed the Arteon, is tipped to receive a shooting brake variant.
Autocar asserts that the brand considers a shooting brake version as the perfect way to add additional “design lustre” to its image. According to VW’s head of full-size product lines, such an Arteon derivative is tempting.
“The first thing we must see is the market reaction to the standard car. If we are to make derivatives of this car then it needs a good base, but we do think that a shooting brake is absolutely the sort of car that could work. First it needs a business case, but it looks quite good,” he said.
The standard Arten will be revealed in just a few months time at the Detroit Motor Show in early March. This means that any possible shooting brake variant wouldn’t debut any time during 2017 but a release the following year is a possibility.
We already know that the Arteon will be based around the brand’s MQB platform albeit slightly stretched to make the model 50 mm longer than the CC. Additionally, the Arteon will be Volkswagen’s first model to use its new seven-speed DSG transmission and be offered in front and all-wheel drive guises.
