While in the end this is nothing more than Volvo showcasing their racing prowess with a little friendly cat and mouse game, watching the Polestar-powered Volvo S60 taking on a record-setting truck is extremely exciting.
First, the two racing machines went head to head in a straight-line drag race, followed by a lap around the Mantorp track in Sweden, which may or may not be as fun to watch as the drag race itself.
In terms of performance, the WTCC S60 Polestar TC1 features a 400 HP (405 PS) 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, a 6-speed sequential gearbox, front-wheel drive and weighs just 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs).
In contrast, the Iron Knight weighs a monster 4.5 tonnes (9,920 lbs), though thanks to its 2,400 HP (2,433 PS) and 6,000 Nm (4,425 lb-ft) of torque, it comes with a power-to-weight ratio of over 0.5 hp/kg.
This by the way is the same Iron Knight truck that set two high speed records in the 500 and 1,000 meter standing-start categories, where it topped out at an average of 131.29 km/h (81.57 mph) in 13.71 seconds and 169 km/h (105 mph) in 21.29 seconds respectively.
So while a car vs truck race is generally redundant, just remember that the Iron Knight is far removed from being utilitarian.
