Choosing the right Christmas gift for a gearhead can be tricky, which is why Volkswagen saw an opportunity to attract shoppers into their special line of products.
Leaving aside the winter tires, heated seats and auxiliary heating that come in handy during the cold season, the Germans company’s UK arm launched a range of Christmas-themed official merchandise, available for order from the VW Retailer network.
Priced from £18 ($23) is a 1:87 scale Beetle assembly kit, which can have its axles, wheels, and tires mounted and dismounted, joined by a Beetle ride-on car, suitable for children over 12 months, available from £79 ($101). Those looking to plug in their USB stick and listen to music inside their cars can choose an 8GB storage capacity unit in the form of a key for £27 ($34).
The list also includes glass baubles in gleaming gold, with the Volkswagen motif on the side, offered in packs of five, and priced from £7.50 ($10), along with a Beetle bauble that is 95 mm (3.7 in) long and 55 mm (2.2 in) tall, and costs £5 ($6). Last but not least, the car company has teamed up with stuffed toy-maker Steiff to create a 22 cm (8.7 in) tall teddy bear, which retails from £28 ($36).
