If you were waiting for somebody to finally make the ultimate grind-house TV series, prepare to be entertained and grossed out at the same time.
Blood Drive, which is already airing on Syfy, is set in an alternate 1999 where cars run on blood and engage in cross-country death racing the likes of which would probably bring a smile to Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s faces.
Beware though, this show contains hardcore violence and profanity, the likes of which might actually bother some viewers, so it’s important you go in knowing exactly what type of racing-based show this is. A sort of Grindhouse meets Mad Max meets From Dusk Till Dawn type of affair.
The two leads, Alan Ritchson and Christina Ochoa, you might know them from Animal Kingdom (Ochoa), while Ritchson played Thad Castle in Blue Mountain State and provided the voice-over for Raphael in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies.
As for a full storyline, here’s what you need to know: “Los Angeles in the near future – where water is a scarce as oil, and climate change keeps the temperature at a cool 115 in the shade. It’s a place where crime is so rampant that only the worst violence is punished, and where Arthur Bailey — the city’s last good cop — runs afoul of the dirtiest and meanest underground car rally in the world: Blood Drive. The master of ceremonies is a vaudevillian nightmare, the drivers are homicidal deviants, and the cars run on human blood. Buckle Up, Lube Up and prepare for everything you know about Cable Television to Blow up!”
