Hyundai has confirmed it’s working an all-electric version of the new Kona, as well as a smaller A-segment SUV.

The news came directly from Hyundai’s vice chairman Chung Eui-sun who said during the launch of the new Kona “our plan is to develop an A-segment SUV that is smaller than the Kona by 2020 so we can embrace the SUV from A to E segment, so we will also roll out an E-segment SUV that is bigger than Santa Fe. We want a full SUV line-up to respond to our customers’ needs.”

The Korean company plans a full range of SUVs that will cover almost every segment in a bid to take advantage of the current market trends.

But the big news are about the new Kona, which is set to get a fully electric version by next year. “We will launch electric vehicle Kona EV model by next year,” said Chung to Autocar. “We will focus more on eco-friendly cars such as EV and hydrogen-electric cars.”

Officials have also said that the upcoming Kona EV is going to offer a driving range of more than 240 miles.
