We already know that the latest Porsche 911 GT3 managed to post an incredibly fast lap around the Green Hell, but this time, we get to see what it can do during an independent track test.
Sport Auto took a 2017 Porsche 911 GT3 equipped with the PDK transmission for their regular ‘Supertest’ around the famous German track in the hands of Christian Gebhardt, the same guy who posted that insane lap with the AMG GT-R back in December.
The track-focused 991.2 GT3 managed a 7min 18sec lap time which is not that far off the official time of 7min 12.7 Porsche announced last month.
What might come as a surprise though is the time posted by the same driver on the same track at the wheel of the new 911 GTS: 7 minutes and 24 seconds, which is six seconds slower from a car that wears stickier tires and has only one race seat for this test.
In the end of the day, lap times are just another marketing tool and the fact that the new GT3 proved to be just six seconds faster than the cheaper GTS in the hands of the same driver around the 12.9-mile-long track really doesn’t affect our desire to sell a few organs for its keys.
