A Mercedes-AMG GT prototype has been scooped testing on the Nurburgring. It has most of its body wrapped in vinyl stickers, but its central mounted exhaust and large rear wing, which seem to come straight from the ‘R’, remain visible.

However, since the Mercedes-AMG GT R debuted last summer, we could be looking at an even meaner version, which would top it in the brand’s sports car family and mark the return of the ‘Black Series’ moniker in Merc’s range.

The GT R makes 585PS (577hp) and 700Nm (516lb-ft) of torque from the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 , which enables it to go from rest to 100km/h (62mph) in 3.6 seconds and up to a top speed of 318km/h (198mph). Under the hood of the new AMG E63 S, the same engine produces 612PS (604hp) and 850Nm (627lb-ft) of torque, so there is definitely room for improvement when it comes to performance.

Whether this is actually the Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series is a good question, but if it is, then expect a set of upgrades over the R to make the new range-topper more powerful and even more hardcore than the ‘Beast of the Green Hell‘.
