As he was approaching Doran’s Bend during this year’s Isle of Man TT, Honda Racing’s Guy Martin hit a “false neutral” in his Honda SP2 motorbike, resulting in a high-speed crash.
Luckily for him, he managed to get up shortly after and leave the scene with just a bruised wrist, which is as much as you can hope for after falling off your bike at almost 140 mph (225 km/h).
After watching the crash, you can also see the interview in which Guy is visibly shaken up after what he had to go through. He struggles to find his words a bit, but explains that he couldn’t make the turn since there was no engine brake as he shifted down.
Following the accident, Martin announced that he will not compete in the 2017 Senior TT in the Isle of Man, as reported by the BBC. He stated that: “We need more time to set up the bike and doing six laps will not achieve what we set out to do.”
The truck mechanic and motorcycle racer has yet to win a race on the Isle of Man mountain course, although he has achieved no fewer than 16 podium finishes since his TT debut back in 2004.
“I came back to the TT this year to race and try to win with Honda Racing,” added Martin. “I’ve always reckoned this is not the place to be out riding just to make up the numbers, so as a team we agreed it wasn’t right competing in the Senior TT.”
