With a fresh design and a new 450 PS twin turbo 3.0-liter straight six, the 2017 Porsche 911 (991.2) GTS is among the quickest 911s you can buy today.
Driven here by The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah in Carrera 4 GTS spec, this thing was dressed to impress with its 7-speed manual transmission and plenty of options, some of which Farah found a bit unnecessary.
Other than that, he seemed genuinely impressed with how the 2017 991.2 GTS drives, from how balanced and comfortable it feels over long distances, to how poised it is once your foot gets heavier.
He even goes as far as to call it a more composed 997 Turbo S, although if you’re trying to compare the two, you’d need to be looking at the 997.1 Turbo, with its 480 PS and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) of torque.
The 2017 991.2 GTS has 450 PS and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft), which allow it to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4 seconds flat, before maxing out at 310 km/h (192 mph). The 997.1 Turbo will hit the same mark in 3.9 seconds and has the exact same top speed. So yes, pretty much identical stats.
Still, is the new GTS good enough to choose it over a Turbo? Watch the video right after the jump and find out.
