We continually hear about how dangerous it is to text and drive, and rightfully so, as being distracted while behind the wheel can be a matter of life and death. However, it would appear that some people need to be warned about the dangers of texting and walking as well.
Footage recently captured in New Jersey showed the moment that a 67-year-old woman fell 6 feet down a sidewalk cellar, suffering serious injuries, exemplifying just how dangerous it can be.
In the video, the woman can be seen looking at her phone before stumbling into an open cellar door and tumbling down, much to the shock of two female onlookers.
Speaking to News4, local resident Martin Delgadillo said he witnessed the moment the woman fell: “She was looking at her phone — the last minute — she hit the door and fell right in.”
While texting and walking may seem like a trivial and somewhat funny phenomena, it is a rather serious one. In fact, some studies have suggested that it accounts for a spike in pedestrian injuries and deaths.
