Produced in an era when automakers couldn’t care less about saving the environment, the Bentley Turbo R built upon the Mulsanne, but came with a more high-performance flair courtesy of a turbocharged 6,750cc V8 and a sportier suspension setup.
Considering its gargantuan size and 2,390 kg (5,270 lb) weight, it was surprisingly nimble, and this made it a real performer in a straight line, being able to reach up to 135mph (217km/h), and its sporty abilities brought it the appreciation of car magazine reviews at the time.
Finished in Beluga Black, with twin Cardinal Red lines, on top of a black leather interior, the car pictured here was purchased by its current owner last year from a University Professor, who took great care of it and drove it to numerous events. It’s said to be ‘presented in lovely condition’, and despite turning 26 this year, it has just 27,189 miles (43,756km) on the clock.
This Turbo R is in search of a new home and will be offered without reserve at the SilverstoneAuctions event on July 29-30.
