For car enthusiasts like ourselves, there aren’t many better solutions to a reckless night’s sleep than going for a drive when the roads are empty and life feels simple and stress free.
However, the 79-year-old owner of a Porsche Boxster GTS took things to new extremes in Namur, Belgium last year after being snapped driving at 147 mph (236 km/h) by a speed camera at around midnight.
While appearing in court this month, local media outlet Gazet Van Antwerpen says the 79-year-old confessed to her crime (it’s hard to refute a speeding camera…) and admitted that she simply went for a drive to clear her mind.
“No, I was driving myself. I could not sleep that night and so I decided to take a ride to clear my head,” she told the judge.
Despite the woman having no previous criminal record, she was hit with a hefty 4,000 euro ($4,663) fine and banned from driving for three months.
