It’s no secret that BMW is working on the successors of the current 6-Series, which will gain the 8-Series moniker, alongside more generous proportions.
The first one to show its fangs will be the coupe, which was previewed by a concept car that debuted at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, on the shores of Lake Como, Italy, almost two months ago.
The stunning looking study will lend its design characteristics to the new 8-Series, while also previewing the brand’s new styling direction that will be noticeable on the upcoming X7 as well.
Scooped here is yet another BMW 8-Series prototype, which was captured on the Nurburgring earlier this week. The camouflaged body reveals few details, but given its deep symphony, coming from under the hood, we may be looking at an M model – possibly an M Perfomance variant with the M550i’s 456hp V8 (despite the existence of regular exhaust tips).
BMW confirmed a pure M model in late May, but they weren’t ready to talk about its powertrain. However, it’s believed to make use of the same engine as the new M5, a V8 that should produce 600 horses, paired to an xDrive AWD system. Enthusiasts shouldn’t be worried about not being able to drift the car, as it will most likely come with a rear-wheel drive only mode.
