Remember when Lucid Motors took an Air prototype to 217mph? That record was just broken, with the same car hitting a GPS-verified 235mph at the Ohio Transportation Research Center.
The new record came after Lucid Motors removed the software speed limiter of the Air Alpha prototype and updated the air suspension’s software.
This time the Lucid Air Alpha prototype came off the banking at 215mph before reaching 235.44mph (378.9km/h) at the straight. Lucid claims that throughout the test run, the car was “perfectly stable in corners and on straight” and that the thermal levels of the electric powertrain stayed within their specification.
Lucid promises that the final production Air model will offer 1000hp combined from its two electric motors, paired with either a standard 100kWh battery pack or an optional 130kWh unit.
Despite the Alpha Speed prototype hitting such a high top speed, Lucid Motors says that this is not the final production top speed for the Lucid Air. Instead the company wanted to showcase that their upcoming electric four-door luxury model will offer no compromises in performance and dynamics while still offering “remarkable space and comfort”.
