Faraday Future has announced that construction at its $1 billion factory in Nevada has been put on hold, shortly after we learnt about the financial issues of Jia Yueting, the billionaire businessman backing the electric automaker.
In a statement, Faraday Future said it had halted construction at the ‘Apex’ site in Nevada and revealed that attention will turn to a different facility which will help it achieve its goal of producing the FF 91 electric crossover.
“We have decided to put a hold on our factory at the Apex site in North Las Vegas. We remain committed to the Apex site in Las Vegas for long-term vehicle manufacturing,” the company said.
One week ago, a court in Shanghai froze $182 million of Yueting’s assets and at the time, Faraday Future insisted that the development would not impact it. Evidently, that has proven not to be the case.
Faraday asserts that deliveries of the FF 91 will commence in 2019 but it is hard to imagine how that target date will be reached given the fact that the firm has nowhere to build the vehicle.
Nevertheless, if the FF 91 does eventually hit the streets, it is expected to ship with a retractable 3D lidar, 10 high-definition cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors and 13 long and short radars. Additionally, it will use a 130 kWh battery pack and four electric motors delivering 1,050 hp and 1,800 Nm of torque.
