Hyundai has exceptionally bold ambitions to be the top selling car manufacturer in Europe by the year 2021.
While speaking to the world media at an event in Dusseldorf, Germany to reveal the i30 N and i30 Fastback, senior vice president & chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Europe discussed the company’s plans.
“Hyundai intends to become the top selling car company in Europe by 2021.
“Our newest products are a significant driver for our ambition to launch 30 new products and derivatives across Europe by 2021, which is why we are calling it the road to 2021,” Schmid said to Car Advice.
Hyundai believes that a key reason why it’ll be able to achieve such high sales in Europe is its adoption of online sales tactics, not dissimilar to what Tesla has been doing for a number of years.
“With the latest digital platform, we sold over 100 cars in just a few weeks. We want to make things easy for people, which is why we are number one for customer satisfaction in Europe. And to that we have devised four cornerstones as a business strategy,” Schmid said.
“Number one is our SUV line-up. Two, is future mobility, [and] three is what we call our DNA models: the ‘I’ family, while four is our high emotion models, N.”
Hyundai may be firm in its European sales goal, but achieving it won’t be easy. In 2016, Hyundai was the 14th highest selling car manufacturer in Europe, selling 505,396 vehicles. Among the higher selling marques across the continent include Citroen, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Peugeot, Ford and Volkswagen, easily leading the way with 1.7 million sales.
