Mercedes has announced a series of updates for the E-Class.
While the model was only introduced a year and a half ago, the automaker has revealed the car will be equipped with an enhanced Linguatronic voice control system which is an “evolutionary leap forward.”
The previous system could only be used to handle entertainment functions but the new system allows drivers to adjust things such as the cabin’s temperature and the status of the heated seats. The new system can also activate the rear window defroster as well as various other comfort and lighting functions. Users can also request information about a variety of topics including how much range the car has and what the current speed limit is.
The updated system supports eleven more languages and will sound less robotic thanks to the ability to respond to the same question with three or four synonymous sentences.
Besides the updated voice technology, the European-spec model will be offered with a new variant of the Audio 20 system. Costing €1,011.50 ($1,155), the system has a 12.3‑inch display and new infotainment software.
Both the entry-level and optional Audio 20 systems will be offered with a new Mercedes-Benz SD map navigation package with add GPS functionality as well as real-time traffic information. The company will also offer a new telephony system that costs €702.10 ($802) and adds LTE connectivity as well as HD Voice technology.
Rounding out the changes are two new wood trim finishes, updated nappa leather options, and an enhanced ambient lighting system. The updated model also comes with two rear USB charging ports as well as updated Touch Control buttons on the steering wheel that provide audible feedback.
