Rolls-Royce says the new aluminum platform underpinning the 2018 Phantom will allow for levels of customization simply not possible in the outgoing model.
At the launch of the new car in the UK, Rolls-Royce designer Alex Innes said the new Phantom was created from the outset with bespoke variants from its most dedicated customers in mind, suggesting that more crazy creations like the Sweptail are on the horizon.
“With the new Phantom VIII we have a bigger canvas with more freedom and flexibility than we’ve ever had with any other Rolls-Royce vehicle,” he said.
Motoring reports that the secret to the new Phantom’s almost limitless levels of personalization come thanks to its aluminum architecture which can be changed when required. For example, rumors suggest that many of its hard-mounting parts may actually be moveable, allowing parts like the windscreen to be shifted. Additionally, the length of the platform will be adjustable.
Innes revealed that Rolls-Royce engineers worked in collaboration with designers and customers from the firm’s Bespoke department to ensure the new Phantom offers something no other luxury cars can.
“Bespoke is what defines us, it’s what sets Rolls-Royce apart from anything else and unquestionably we can and will deliver on individual wishes and tastes of a patron of ours like no other car brand can,” said Innes.
