Chevrolet has been testing the 2018 Corvette ZR1 in public for almost a year now and while we still don’t have a date for when the supercar will premiere, it is bound to happen before the end of the year. In the meantime, we can enjoy another spy video of it testing at Germany’s Nurburgring.

Just like prototypes scooped at the circuit back in April, the tester in this video was outfitted with strange looking tailpipes said to muffle the car’s exhaust note which surpasses noise restrictions at the circuit.

Despite making the rear of the prototype look rather strange, the 2018 ZR1 is still one incredibly loud beast and by the time it reaches production, could very well be one of the loudest production cars on the market.

Beyond its exhaust note, current indications suggest the new ZR1 will be powered by an all-new twin-turbo LT5 V8 developing in excess of 700 hp. When combined with a number of weight saving measures and downforce-generation aerodynamic elements, the car should prove to be the new 911 GT2 RS’s perfect rival.
