The iconic Ferrari 365 GTB/4 was a road car, but it never would have gotten its popular (though unofficial) name Daytona were it not for its competition history.
That’s the historical context against which this classic is presented. It’s not one of the original Competition-spec Daytonas, but it was subsequently converted as such. And now it’s up for grabs.
Offered for sale by noted London concessionaire Hexagon, this particular Daytona left the Maranello factory in 1973 in road-going specification. And so it remained for over a quarter of a century until 1999 when it was upgraded to Group 4 competition status – complete with 450-horsepower, 4.4-liter V12, flared wheel arches with fatter rolling stock, and an aluminum hood and trunklid.
Fully certified and documented by the FIA, it’s now eligible for historic motorsport events. Which will be good news for some classic racing enthusiasts, because while the asking price has not been disclosed, original Competition Daytona these days trade hands for millions, but road-going models typically fall below that seven-figure mark.
