Top Gear is returning to the United States after a short hiatus as the first episode of Top Gear America will air this weekend on BBC America.

The revamped show stars Antron Brown, William Fichtner, and Tom Ford who have been tapped to replace Adam Ferrara, Tanner Foust, and Rutledge Wood who starred on the History Channel’s version of the show.

It remains to be seen if the show is worth watching but a post by Ford reveals the upcoming season will show the hosts traveling to Mexico to drove Baja bugs across the desert and building their own ‘80s homage to NASCAR. Ford also revealed the team “tested a few new cars, a few old cars, and did a few skids.”

The relationship between Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond is one of the things that made Top Gear UK so successful and was also part of the reason the revamped series was panned during its first season.

Ford touched on the issue by saying “You throw three strangers together, and you’re asking for trouble trying to make them friends.” He admitted “we needed to figure each other out a little at first” but says the end result “really, honestly worked.”

If you’re interested in checking it out, the series kicks off on July 30th at 8 pm.
